We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive lab culture, and welcome scientists of all genders, races, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. We especially encourage applications from individuals from groups that are typically underrepresented in academia and STEM fields. Our lab is a very supportive place, and we recruit new lab members with the goal of maintaining a nurturing and productive environment.

Graduate students
Prospective PhD students check out the application mentoring program led by our current students!

We are recruiting graduate students (PhD and MA) through the Cognitive Science program for the Fall 2025 cycle. You can email Leyla if you have additional questions, but she does not meet with or interview students before reviewing their application (and is not always able to reply to these emails). If you list her as an advisor of interest, she will see your application. You can check out our recent papers to learn more about our ongoing work. If you think it would be a good fit for the lab, please make that clear in your application.
We also encourage you to take a look at our other faculty. We have a very collaborative department, and Leyla is happy to co-advise or serve as a secondary advisor to students.

Postdocs
If you are interested in doing a postdoc in the lab, please email Leyla (lisik@jhu.edu) with some your CV, details about your past research, and what you are interested in working on in a postdoc.

Undergraduates
We are committed to mentoring talented undergraduates from a range of backgrounds. To ensure students have the most fulfilling and productive experience in the lab, we are interested in students who can dedicate at least 9 hours (3 course credits) to research each week during the semester. During summer months, there may also be opportunities for lab funding or to apply for summer funding via PURA (due Feb 1) or a KSAS research award (due Feb 15).

If you are interested in pursuing research in the lab, email Leyla with answers to the following questions:

-
Your major and year at JHU
-
Why you are interested in undergrduate research
-
What aspects of our research are most exciting to you and what would you like to work on in the lab (you can learn more by looking at our recent papers)
-
Your relevant course work and technical skills (including any programming experience)

Please note that we don't usually have the ability to supervise external interns or high school students.
